Massive Food Drive Set for All MSEA-SEIU Chapters

A year after helping to deliver a pickup truck full of food to the Good Shepherd Food Bank, a statewide food pantry, MSEA-SEIU Director Bruce Prindall is now spearheading a union-wide food drive through April. He is working with every single MSEA-SEIU chapter president to identify a regional food bank, food pantry or soup kitchen suitable for that chapter’s nonperishable food donations.

This food drive is for chapters of both currently working and retired members.

In addition to the nonperishable food drive, Prindall is working with MSEA-SEIU chapter, presidents to help them:

  • Set up a day to collect and deliver perishable food items such as frozen turkeys to the same regional food banks, food pantries or soup kitchens;
  • Make monetary donations, through Prindall’s MSEA-SEIU chapter, the Eichel-Crinion Chapter, to the Good Shepherd Food Bank.

This food bank, based in Auburn, stocks food banks statewide. Once all monetary contributions are collected, the Eichel-Crinion Chapter will present the food bank with a single check on behalf of all participating chapters. For monetary donations, checks should be made out to “Eichel-Crinion Chapter of MSEA” and mailed to Betty Meader, 105 Metcalf Road Winthrop, ME 04364-3370.

“I had the opportunity to tour the Good Shepherd Food Bank when we delivered the pickup truck full of food, and this is an amazing organization,” Prindall said. “They’ve got the system in place to deliver donated food all over the state. The Good Shepherd Food Bank leverages every dollar in donations for $12 worth of food, so it makes sense for MSEA-SEIU chapters to direct monetary contributions to the Good Shepherd Food Bank.”

If you have any questions about the food drive, Prindall can be reached at mseaseiu@hockey-cat.net or days at 621-5168, or 423-6235 all other times. Any chapter that hasn’t heard from Prindall is asked to contact him.
