Operations, Maintenance & Support Services Bargaining
Unit: The OM&S group has written most of the committee’s
report to the parties. Agreement has been reached that
the current Maine Department of Labor Occupational Wage
statistics will be used to formulate a recommended pay
scale for all classifications in the bargaining unit.
Discussion continues over exactly which classifications
to represent the unit in the public sector to private
sector wage comparisons. We’re hoping to have a final
draft of the report to the parties by end of year.
Professional & Technical Services Bargaining Unit:
The Professional & Technical Services group members
have immersed themselves in the Hay Guide Chart method
of pay level determination. Meetings are scheduled for
two back-to back days per month because separation from
this technique between meetings requires a brief refresher
in how the Hay methods are used. Several classifications
have been rescored with many left to do.
Supervisory Services Bargaining Unit: At management’s
request, meetings of the Supervisory unit group have
been suspended until at least the beginning of 2010.
Management claims that resource considerations have
brought about this situation. Because the Supervisory
group results will build from results arrived at in
the groups representing subordinate classifications,
it was decided to press forward faster with the Professional-Technical
Services group while suspending the Supervisory Unit
efforts. We’re hoping to pick up where we left off scoring
revised classifications in January.
