Maine Senate President Elizabeth
Mitchell thanks union members for bringing issues important to
working families and retired workers to the attention of state
legislators as part of the Maine AFL-CIO Lobby Day on February
4 at the State House. In addition to advocating in support of
a fair state budget that keeps Maine people working, union members
throughout Maine talked with their legislators in support of numerous
legislative initiatives, including paid sick leave for Maine workers
and legislation prohibiting the misclassification of workers in
Maine's construction industry. MSEA-SEIU retiree member Jerry
Closson, at right in photo above, talked with legislators in support
of our retirement security legislation known as LD 1595 and our
legislation restoring longevity pay. MSEA-SEIU members also told
legislators they oppose the Governor's proposal to add three additional
unpaid state shutdown days beyond the 20 already booked, since
Maine people are seeking public services from career counseling
to unemployment services now more than ever. Click
