Cal Paquet, MSEA-SEIU Vice President
Candidate for MSEA-SEIU vice president
By Cal Paquet
MSEA-SEIU Vice President
Hello all of my union brothers and sisters, I am your vice president, Cal Paquet. I am reaching out for your support to remain your vice president!
I have been employed by the Maine Turnpike Authority for over 20 years. I joined MSEA and became active in my chapter as soon as I could to learn how things function. I am currently the president of the Maine Turnpike chapter, a chief steward and your vice president. I have worked in a variety of roles over the years to continuously learn more about the many diverse functions of MSEA. I was honored earlier this year when the MSEA Board of Directors showed their faith in me by electing me to be your vice president! Furthermore, I have been a member of bargaining teams, grievance committees, the executive committee, and have consistently been a delegate to our Annual Meeting. I remain active in supporting our membership and leadership team. I do this in hopes that this member-run organization will continuously gain ground in membership as well as contracts.
Although I have been and will continue to be steadfastly committed to recruiting new members, while putting my all into working for the rights and benefits of current members, this is not an effort of one. This effort is from many members across this great state of ours. Not only do I want to maintain this support network, I am in hopes that more members will step up to be active for the greater good of the ENTIRE membership! SOLIDARITY and commitment will keep and grow our strength!
We have learned and continue to learn ever so much from our retirees and what they have been through to get us where we are. The retirees are an asset that we should forever be grateful for and listen intently when they have input.
We lean on the active membership to keep everything moving forward and upright. We don’t always agree with each other, but have to remain focused on what is best for the whole for us to continue moving forward gaining strength and solidarity.
We look to the millennials for visions of the future and how to streamline the quickest and best means of communicating with members so that we all are up to speed and things remain transparent.
I humbly come forth to the membership in hopes of support as remaining the vice president of MSEA. None of us are perfect or know everything, but I will strive to be the best that I can be and continue listening to OUR members. Although I am an employee of the Maine Turnpike Authority, I can relate well to members regardless of their employer. OUR union is not about where someone works; it is about people listening to each other and doing what is best for the entirety. WE have a VERY strong history, current day stability, and a bright future working together!
I’ve seen a lot of changes and growth during my years with MSEA. We have gotten much better at foresight and proactive planning and I will strive to be even better. We have stood strong in the face of adversity and it has strengthened our resolve. I am proud to be a member of this union and all of its members. I would be honored to continue to serve as our vice president and respectfully ask for your support and your vote. I look forward to meeting as many delegates representing MSEA from every county in the State of Maine at the Annual Convention in October, continue learning what is important to members, and resume to serve our diverse yet powerful union.
