May 26 update: Hazard pay for 781 Maine DHHS workers

Dear MSEA-SEIU Member,

On May 20, MSEA-SEIU and management reached an agreement to provide hazard pay for 781 positions within Maine DHHS thanks to the advocacy of MSEA-SEIU members, and in recognition of the personal risk frontline workers take when interacting with the public during this public health emergency.

Many positions at the DHHS Office of Aging and Disability Services, Office of Behavioral Health, Division of Licensing and Certification, and Office of Child and Family Services secured $5 per hour for the listed classifications for all time spent in the field with clients and/or in jails, homeless shelters, in nursing homes, hospitals, congregate living facilities, or assisted living facilities.

This agreement remains in effect from March 29 through the end of the Governor’s State of Civil Emergency or June 30, whichever comes first. To see if you qualify, check the copy of the agreement on our website.

If you are covered by this agreement, you will be given an opportunity to verify the amount of retroactive pay prior to payment. Accordingly, you may want to begin the process of calculating the amount of time you spent performing qualifying field work.

Thank you for all you do for the people of Maine. Stay safe!

In Solidarity,
Dean Staffieri
President, MSEA-SEIU Local 1989
