Director of Field Mobilization

The Maine State Employees Association, Local 1989 of the Service Employees International Union, a progressive and dynamic statewide member-run labor union representing over 13,000 public and private sector workers in the State of Maine, is accepting applications for the position of Director of Field Mobilization.

The position is responsible for, but not limited to:

• Participation in the development and implementation of Union policies and actions
• Furthering the Union’s goals and objectives with emphasis on membership involvement in workplace advocacy
• Participation in the general management of the Union as directed
• Chief negotiator for contract negotiations between the Union and the Executive Branch of Maine State Government
• Supervision of field staff

Applicants must possess:

• Extensive background in union organizing and advocacy
• Knowledge of labor laws and labor arbitration procedures
• Knowledge of current strategic campaign and organizing tactics
• Experience in collective bargaining negotiations and contract campaigns
• Ability to recruit, train, develop and supervise field staff as well as members
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Degree in Labor Studies or related field is highly desirable
• Supervisory experience is strongly preferred

This is a salaried position requiring long and irregular hours and includes some travel with overnight stays. A valid driver’s license and a dependable vehicle are required.
